Gap Up Into the Call Wall
Sent to members at 8:30 AM ET on Jul 27, 2026. Posted here the next trading day.
Key numbers
- 7,476.58
- Premarket
SPX is trading 7,477 premarket — gapping 65 points above Friday's close of 7,412. That clears the gamma flip at 7,455 and the 50-day SMA at 7,472 in one move. The call wall at 7,500 is 23 points above. Before getting aggressive long, want to see a backtest of the 7,455 flip level hold.
The gap is geopolitical. The US suspended airstrikes on Iran over the weekend to allow diplomacy, and Tehran confirmed it would halt retaliatory strikes. Brent crude dropped 7.4% to below $90. VIX futures are down 3.7% to around 17.90. The 10-year is at 4.64%. This is also the busiest week of the quarter — Microsoft and Meta on Wednesday, Apple and Amazon later in the week, Fed decision Wednesday with a 68.5% probability of a hold.
Positive gamma. Premarket is 22 points above the flip at 7,455. The call wall at 7,500 is 23 points above — that's the magnet. The put wall at 7,400 is 77 points below. The 21-week EMA at 7,257 is 220 points below — irrelevant until Friday.
7,455 is the gap level and the flip. If a backtest holds there, 7,500 is the obvious target. If it doesn't, the 8 EMA at 7,465 and the 50-day at 7,472 are in the same zone — all of that needs to hold or the gap fills back toward 7,412.
